Un très joyeux anniversaire, Monsieur Victor Hugo!

On this day in 1802, French poet, novelist, and dramatist of the Romantic movement, Victor Hugo, was born in Besançon, France. You’ve probably heard of his two most famous works, The Hunchback of Norte-Dame (1831) and Les Misérables (1862), both of which were made into movies in the last two decades.

Check out one of Hugo’s books, or the Oscar-winning film Les Misérables (2012) starring Anne Hathway, Hugh Jackman, and Russell Crowe, in celebration of his B-day:
